The Monarchy
The Sovereign is the hereditary Head of State of Novaltia, and chief guardian of national traditions, as well as the fount of and basis for state authority. All legal instruments are promulgated in His name, all commissions and offices are granted under His seal, and all oaths are made to His Crown.
Cabinet Ministers are appointed by the Sovereign based on advice from Parliament. These Ministers comprise His Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council, which performs all collective day-to-day executive functions by majority vote, with most other executive actions being accomplished by the Ministers within their respective departments. The Sovereign Himself, whilst having effective veto power, primarily serves in an advisory rôle, which, when necessary, can be pivotally influential. In general practise, however, all political decisions are made by the Privy Council and Parliament.
The Monarchy serves to ensure the smooth continuity of national traditions, culture, and identity down through the generations, and to provide oversight for politicians. As Protector of the Faith, the Sovereign has an additional responsibility to support the Novaltic Church, and to endorse episcopal appointments and Church doctrine.
The incumbent Monarch is ARTHUR, of the House of Saint Ambrose. His Majesty was born in 1979, and is legitimately descended from European Monarchs through all sixteen great, great grandparents. His seventh-year anniversary on the throne was celebrated on the 27th of October, 2011.
